The Amazon Dragons were founded in Portland, Oregon in 1992 as part of the Lesbian Community Project to give a face to lesbians living in the local community. During that time gay and lesbian awareness and acceptance was not what it is today. Celebrating our 25th anniversary, the Amazons have welcomed all women 16 years and older to join and compete in the international sport of dragon boat racing.
Arizona Dragon Riders
One of the most Competitive, enthusiastic and diversified Dragon Boat paddling teams in Arizona is the ARIZONA DRAGON RIDERS team. Starting in 2008, we have gone from a few interested paddlers to the largest dragon boat team in Arizona. This is our first trip to race in San Diego, where we hope to earn the right to race at our third consecutive Club Crew World Championships.
Fire Breathing Blowfish
A decidedly expressive team, the Fire Breathing Blowfish are united by a love for competition, the harmonious sound of thrashing the water in unison, and a tendency toward inappropriate behavior at inopportune moments. Noisy, joyful, and proud of having become Portland’s "THAT team" in our past 8 years of competition, we hope you'll all catch the Blowfish spirit and hoist a beverage, grind your neighbor, and join us in the battle cry, "We Breathe Fire!" over this wicked weekend of racy racing.
Fire Breathing Hofish
In a bold move, the Fire Breathing Hofish broke away from their Brofish counterparts and have been competing as a smaller women’s team across Oregon for the last 3 years. If you think Makin's Waves is impossible in the desert heat, then you haven't met this group of paddlers. They are a diverse group, varying in age, experience, and hidden talents. When they are not busy rescuing Las Vegas under their Clark Kent identities, these lawyers, teachers, accountants, and more, spend every minute on the lake preparing for battle. Hey, you never know when Khaleesi will recruit a new navy! Makin' Waves feature several dynamic duos, who are great examples of the importance of stroking with passion and dedication, that is, when they are not arguing over whose turn it is to do laundry. Besides their affinity for team parties and copious amounts of Fireball, Makin' Waves is highly dedicated to giving back to the community. When their paddles are not pinky-deep in man-made lakes, you can find them participating in various runs, fundraisers, and school pantry programs throughout the valley under the supervision of their benevolent dictator whom they affectionately refer to as "Coach."
